The string is a stem of the Rotang palm tree (calamus rotang) fixed to the sides with pegs, the bridge is a bamboo stick fixed on a bronze plate (or on a wooden plate over an earth pit) lying down on a big mortar. This beaten instrument accompanies popular love songs (trong quan). This picture was taken 1965 in the Ha Son Binh provence. |
